THE WISCONSIN CHAPTER OF ASID 2023 DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARDS

GENERAL INFORMATION

Competition Schedule

  • 01/19/2024, 8:00 AM CST: Start of competition
  • 03/15/2024, 7:00 PM CDT: Deadline for entries
  • 03/18/2024: Project judging process begins
  • 04/12/2024: Judging process completed
  • 05/02/2024: The Wisconsin Chapter of ASID 2023 Design Awards Gala - In Person

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be an ASID Wisconsin Member in good standing.
  2. If the interior designer is employed by a firm, they must be the primary designer on record for the project.
  3. Project(s) must have been completed after September 30, 2022.
  4. A maximum of (5) projects may be entered by a single ASID Wisconsin Member.
  5. A project may be submitted in one category PLUS the Impact of Design category if appropriate.
  6. Projects submitted in a previous year’s competition may be re-submitted for the 2023 Design Excellence Awards, provided they fulfill the above requirements.
  7. IMPORTANT: Do not reveal your firm's or individual designer's identity on any photos, firm logos, drawings, PowerPoints, or presentation boards. The designer submitting the project should not be in the project photos used for judging. Any firm/designer marking their identity or the identity of the ASID Member on any other materials will be disqualified.
  8. Professional submissions MAY NOT include computer-rendered images; photography only.
  9. If all requirements are not met, the entry will be disqualified.

entry Fees

  • First project: Entry fee is $150 for the first professional project submitted by an individual.
  • Additional project: Entry fee is $125 for additional projects submitted by the same individual. Maximum of (5) total projects may be submitted by any individual. The entry fee is non-refundable.
  • Payment: All entry fees will be paid through the awards entry management system.

ENTRY SUBMISSION PROCESS

All entries will be submitted electronically via CPJ Association Management entry system. You may revise your project submittal information until the entry management system closes on 03/15/2024 at 7:00 PM.

REGISTER – Click the blue register button on this page. Sign in with your existing username and password, or create a new account if you have not used the platform before. You may now select the awards categories for which you plan to submit a project.

PAYMENT - Pay the submission fees; the discount for multiple entries is automatically applied at checkout. Once you have paid the submission fees, you will be able to complete the Entry requirements. 

PROJECT ENTRY – Select "Entries” to complete entry forms and upload project files and documents. Preferred file size is 4MB, with 2 MB minimum and 10 MB maximum.

-       Complete Entry Forms:

ü  Project Description

ü  Design Concept Statement – 750 words or less. Do not include the designers’ or firm's name in the design concept statement. Do not reveal the name of the project if the project is your firm's office space.

ü  Awards Information

-     Upload Project Photographs – Minimum of (1) and maximum of (10) project and/or supporting images (jpg, png or pdf). Project Photograph #1 will be the photo used in the Awards presentation.

-        Upload Project Drawings: Maximum of (4) project drawings; single page only (jpg, png or pdf).

SUBMIT – Click the Submit button after you have reviewed your entry and are satisfied. You can go back into the entry at any time during entry management and make further changes; just be sure to click Submit again when you are done.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Each project will be reviewed based on how the presented design solution meets the challenges described in the project statement, using the following categories of consideration:

  1.  Appropriate Design Solution – How well does the design solution meet the challenge outlined in the project statement?
  2. Functional Use of Space – Did the designer develop a functional solution to achieve the goals as stated in the project statement?
  3. Innovation & Creative Use of Space – Did the designer use an innovative and creative approach to achieve their goals?
  4. Scale & Proportion – Is the design proportional to the scale of the space?
  5. Color & Composition – Are color and composition used appropriately to achieve the goals of the project statement?
  6. Design Elements – Do the included materials, lighting, and furnishings assist in solving the design challenge effectively?

JUDGING PROCESS

Projects are judged by a panel of ASID Members from ASID Chapters outside of Wisconsin.

  • The jury may award ONE Gold, Silver, and Bronze award for each commercial and residential category as well as an overall Platinum Award for outstanding achievement in both the commercial and residential categories. Platinum level award winners will be selected based on a project's Gold level achievement in the individual categories.
  • Impact of Design award will be given if the jury determines a project meets the criteria.
  • The jury reserves the right to withhold awards in categories where entries do not meet the defined criteria.
  • The jury will evaluate the projects on appropriateness of design solution, functional use of space, innovative and creative use of space, scale & proportion, color composition, design elements, and commitment to sustainability

AWARDS PRESENTATION

Awarded projects will be announced at the Wisconsin Chapter of ASID’s 2023 Design Excellence Awards Gala. Refer to the Chapter website’s Events Page for event details. One award trophy will be presented per winning project. Duplicate awards will be available by order after the event at cost.
